Leigh Blackall presents his thoughts and ideas on an essay in progress, called From Politics to Business: Adventure sport, gender identity and product marketing. In this presentation are some sketched out ideas looking at the situation of the Australian family unit in the late 1970s and early 80s, suggesting an increase in adventure activities through organisations like scouting, helping to grow participation in individual sport activity. Product marketing responds to this social trend in the mid to late 80s, looking at examples like Schwepps Solo soft drink (1985), and 20th Century Fox's Fight Club movie (1999).
